The Wicked Elephant, Sparrow and Her Friends

The moral of the story is Even the weak can overcome the strong if they work together as a team

Once there was a sparrow couple who lived happily in a big tree in the jungle. They had built a cozy nest and were waiting for their eggs to hatch. One hot summer day, a big elephant came to the jungle. He was very angry and restless. He stomped on the ground and broke many trees with his trunk.

He came to the tree where the sparrows lived and smashed it with his trunk. The nest fell down and the eggs broke. The sparrows flew away in time, but they were very sad to lose their babies.

The sparrow mother cried loudly. A woodpecker who lived nearby heard her and came to comfort her.

He said, “Don’t cry, my friend. Crying will not bring back your eggs. You have to accept what fate has done.”

The sparrow mother said, “You are right, but I cannot forgive that wicked elephant. He killed my babies for no reason. He is so big and powerful, and we are so small and weak.”

She asked the woodpecker, “If you are my friend, please help me get revenge on that elephant. Tell me how can I hurt him and make him pay for his evil deed.”

The woodpecker said, “I will help you, my friend. I have another friend who is a fly. She can help us too. Let us go and talk to her.”

So they went to the fly and told her everything. The fly said, “I am sorry for your loss, my friend. I will help you too. I have another friend who is a frog. He is very clever and can make a good plan. Let us go and ask him.”

So they went to the frog and told him everything. The frog said, “Don’t worry, my friends. The elephant may be big, but he is alone. We are small, but we are many. If we work together, we can defeat him. I have a plan!”

He said, “Fly, you have to buzz in his ears when he is feeling hot and tired. He will close his eyes and enjoy your sound. Then woodpecker, you have to peck his eyes and make him blind. He will be scared and thirsty and look for water. But he will not be able to see anything. Then I will sit near a deep pit and croak loudly.”

He said, “When the elephant hears me, he will think there is water nearby and follow my voice. He will fall into the pit and die. This is how we can get revenge for the sparrow’s babies.”

They all agreed to the plan and did their jobs well. The elephant fell into the pit and died.

The sparrow mother thanked her friends for their help.
