The Monkey and the Wedge

The Monkey and the Wedge

The moral of this story : We shouldn’t interfere in other people’s work or stick our noses into things we don’t know about. If we do, we will surely come to grief.

Once upon a time, there was a merchant who wanted to build a beautiful temple in his garden. He hired many skilled carpenters and masons to help him with the construction. Every day, the workers would arrive early in the morning and start working on the temple. They would work hard all morning, then take a break for lunch to rest and eat.

One day, while the workers were taking their lunch break, a group of curious monkeys came to the building site. They watched as the workers left their tools and went to eat. One of the carpenters had been sawing a big log of wood, but he hadn’t finished yet. So he put a wedge in the middle of the log to keep it from closing up while he was gone.

The monkeys were very curious about all the tools and materials at the building site. They started jumping around and playing with everything they could find. One monkey was especially curious about the wedge that was put between the logs. He climbed onto the log and sat down in the middle of it. Then he grabbed the wedge and started pulling on it, trying to see what would happen.

Suddenly, the wedge came out of the log and it closed up quickly. The monkey was caught in the gap and couldn’t get out. He was badly hurt and cried out in pain.

This story teaches us that we shouldn’t interfere in other people’s work or stick our noses into things we don’t know about. If we do, we might get hurt or cause problems for others. It’s always better to be careful and respectful of other people’s things.
