The Dreaming Brahmin
Once upon a time, there was a poor Brahmin named Swabhavakripna. He lived all alone in a tiny village. He had no friends or family, and he used to beg for food to survive. Swabhavakripna was very careful with his food and kept it in a clay pot hanging beside his bed. He only ate from the pot when he was very, very hungry.
One day, Swabhavakripna received a big bowl of rice porridge. He filled his pot with the porridge and ate the rest. He was so happy to see his pot full of food that he couldn’t stop looking at it. Finally, he fell asleep with a big smile on his face.
As he slept, Swabhavakripna started to dream. In his dream, there was a famine in the village, and food was very scarce. He sold his pot of rice porridge for a hundred silver coins. With this money, he bought two goats. The goats had many baby goats, and soon he had a lot of goats. He traded the goats for some cows and buffaloes.
The cows and buffaloes gave lots of milk. Swabhavakripna sold the milk, butter, and curd in the market and became very rich. He bought horses and a big house with four buildings. He became very famous, and a wealthy Brahmin offered his beautiful daughter to marry him. They had a grand wedding, and soon they had a son named Soma Sharma.
Soma Sharma was a very naughty boy. He played and made noise all day long. One day, Swabhavakripna asked him to be quiet, but Soma Sharma didn’t listen. Even his mother couldn’t hear him because she was busy with her work. Swabhavakripna got very angry and kicked his wife in his dream.
But in reality, he kicked the air and hit his clay pot. The pot broke, and all the rice porridge spilled on the floor. Swabhavakripna woke up and realized that he had been dreaming. He was very sad because all the rice porridge he had saved was gone.
Moral of the Story: Don’t build castles in the air. It’s important to stay grounded and not let dreams make you forget reality.
