The Donkey and the Washerman

The Donkey and the Washerman

Moral of the Story: Always be yourself and don’t pretend to be someone you’re not.

Once upon a time, there was a washerman named Shuddapatta. He had a donkey who helped him carry clothes. But poor donkey was very thin and weak because there wasn’t enough grass to eat. Shuddapatta was very worried about his donkey.

One day, while walking in the jungle, Shuddapatta found a dead tiger. He had an idea! He thought, “I will take the tiger’s skin and put it on my donkey. Then, I will let my donkey eat in the fields at night. The farmers will think he is a tiger and won’t come near him. This way, my donkey can eat a lot and get strong.”

So, Shuddapatta took the tiger’s skin and covered his donkey with it. Every night, he let the donkey go to the fields. The farmers saw the “tiger” and got scared. They stayed inside their homes, and the donkey ate lots of yummy grass and crops. He became strong and healthy again.

One night, while the donkey was eating, he heard a female donkey braying far away. He got excited and brayed back loudly. The farmers heard the donkey’s bray and realized it was not a tiger but a donkey in disguise! They came out with sticks and chased the donkey away.

The donkey learned a big lesson that night.
