The Country Mouse and the Town Mouse
Moral of the Story: All material riches cannot provide happiness.
Once upon a time, in a peaceful countryside, there lived a simple and happy mouse named Milo. Milo loved his quiet life in the country, where he enjoyed the fresh air and the beautiful fields. Milo had a very good friend named Toby, who lived in a bustling town.
One day, Milo invited Toby to visit him in the countryside. “Why don’t you come to my home sometime?” Milo asked. Toby happily agreed and soon made his way to the country.
Milo welcomed Toby warmly and served him a variety of fruits and nuts. They sat in the open fields, enjoying their meal peacefully. However, Toby soon grew tired of the simple food. “What a boring life this is,” he said. “Come with me to the town. I’ll show you how wonderful my life is.”
Milo was curious and readily accepted his friend’s invitation. So, the two friends set off to the town. When they arrived, Toby took Milo to his home, which was in the kitchen of a big house. Toby served Milo a very delicious feast, including cakes, biscuits, and bread.
As they sat down to eat, they suddenly heard the footsteps of the lady of the house. They quickly hid in a hole to avoid being seen. After a while, they came out of their hiding place and sat down again to eat. But just as they were about to take a bite, they heard a loud meow. It was the house cat!
Hearing the cat, the mice ran for their lives, hiding in their hole once more. Milo was very scared and didn’t like this way of living at all. He turned to Toby and said, “What a life you’re leading! You cannot even eat in peace. I can’t live like you. I’m going back to my village.”
Saying this, the wise country mouse, Milo, went back to his peaceful countryside. He realized that all the delicious food and material riches in the town could not provide the happiness and peace he had in his simple country life.
And so, Milo learned that all material riches cannot provide happiness. True happiness comes from living a peaceful and content life, appreciating what you have.
